TRADA deadlines for 2008 student prize
TRADA, the Timber Research and Development Association, announce deadline for entries for 2008 'Timber in Construction Student Prize', worth GBP1,000 to the winners.
The TRADA award aims to recognise excellence and innovation in the use of timber in construction amongst university students of both engineering and architecture.
Entries should be received by 23rd May 2008.
The runner-up will receive GBP500.
The judges are looking for projects that demonstrate innovative and inspiring applications of timber within any type of structure, including restoration and conservation of existing buildings, private buildings, public buildings or non-building structures (eg bridges).
The prize is open to all students, but entries must include consideration of Eurocode 0, 1 and 5 (EN 1995-1-1, EN 1995-1-2 and EN 1995-2).
TRADA's Timber Design Knowledge software, an information resource and guidance document for the structural application of timber, may be of use for this.
The software is available to students free of charge from http://research.ttlchiltern.co.uk/pif294.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 27th June 2008 and winners will be announced on 11th July 2008.
The award is supported by wood.
for good.
Entry forms and further details are available on the TRADA website.
The TRADA Timber in Construction Student Prize was awarded last year to a team of architectural and engineering under-graduates from the University of Bath, for a design for a new west stand for the Bath Rugby Club.
