TRADA Technology revised and expanded edition of reference guide for designers, specifiers and builders, 'Span tables for solid timber members in floors ceilings and roofs for dwellings'.
The publication is designed to supplement the England and Wales Building Regulations and has been researched and written by TRADA, the Timber Research and Development Association, recognised experts on timber in construction The tables were until 2004 included in Approved Document A: Structure

TRADA Technology's specialist support service for users and potential users of timber frame, frameCHECK, has announced dates for its highly regarded timber frame training courses.
The span tables comply with current regulations and standards and contain section sizes and spans for solid timber members in floors, ceilings and roofs (excluding trussed rafter roofs) for dwellings.
The calculations apply to buildings up to three storeys in height above ground level.
New features in the second edition include additional sizes, tables for trimmers and trimming joists and information on fixings.
Tables are included for domestic floor joists, ceiling joists and binders, and rafters and purlins supporting rafters for traditional pitched roofs.
Calculations are also given for "canted" purlins supporting roof sheeting or cladding, and for flat roof joists.
Softwood species and grade combinations to satisfy strength classes C16 and C24 are listed.
Frequently asked questions have been incorporated in the notes alongside the tables.
The publication costs GBP25.00 (GBP15 for TRADA members), plus postage, from the TRADA bookshop.
