TRADA researches timber cladding discolouration

TRADA has launched a research project to investigate the causes of discolouration of external unfinished timber cladding and to develop strategies for its prevention and remedial treatment.

The aims are threefold: To identify the causes of the various forms of unpredictable discolouration of unfinished exterior cladding in service; To establish the effectiveness of preventative treatment or design measures to prevent discolouration occurring in service; To develop appropriate strategies for the remedy and long-term prevention of discolouration on exterior cladding.

The project will tap into a variety of sources to gather relevant information, including archive material, consultancy reports and known cases of onsite discolouration.

There may be an opportunity for cladding suppliers to participate in additional work as an adjunct to the main project.
