Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Apr 20, 2010

There are two key issues to address to meet the new Part L revision: Higher external fabric thermal performance for walls, floors, windows.

The overall target will be to reduce designed CO2 emissions by 25 per cent against the 2006 standard; and calculated Psi values by a competent body.

Psi-values provide a measure of the additional heat loss as a result of non-repeating linear thermal bridges.

TRADA Technology's recently published Essential Timber Frame Standard Details will form the starting point for creating a new set of standard thermal details, providing calculated U-values and Psi-values, to help meet the 2010 requirements.

A further set will be created with the performance values for 2013 in mind.

The project will be managed by TRADA Technology Building Performance Division's Lewis Taylor who will also lead a workshop at TRADA's High Wycombe headquarters in the next few weeks, to pool and collate industry comment and guidance.

To be involved please contact Lewis Taylor at ltaylor@trada.co.uk.

The calculated thermal details will be available for download by the end of May, free to TRADA members.

Non-members will be able to purchase the details from the TRADA bookshop.
