New Queen's Hospital, Romford is now completed with Tarkett Marley Floors supplying range of products for the flooring of the one million square feet building.

Construction of the eagerly awaited, prestigious new Queen's Hospital, Romford is now completed, with Tarkett Marley Floors supplying a range of products for the flooring of the one million square feet building The four- storey structure has been designed and built under a PFI agreement for Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust, to replace the existing Oldchurch and Harold Wood hospitals

Bovis Lend Lease was responsible for the design and construction of the hospital as part of the Catalyst Healthcare PFI consortium, which includes the Bank of Scotland and Sodexho.

The architects for the project were Building Design Partnership and Jonathan Bailey Associates.

Tarkett Marley Floors Eclipse PUR, Safetred Dimension, Safetred Aqua, Granit AS and Tapiflex 164 Uni have all been specified by the architects for installation throughout the hospital, including all clinical areas, corridors and wet areas.

Eclipse PUR is a heavy-duty vinyl, which is regularly specified for hospitals, as it is easy to maintain because of the unique Pro-Tech polyurethane reinforcement providing even greater protection from scratching, scuffing and soiling.

A wide colour choice and ability to incorporate logos and design features lends itself perfectly to highly visual interior design projects.

Safetred Dimension is being used for its reputation as a highly decorative safety floorcovering, particularly within environments where there is high risk for the elderly or infirm.

This hardwearing slip resistant floor covering provides an extra tough embossed surface.

For the wet areas, Safetred Aqua was the ideal choice, as a flexible vinyl decorative slip resistant safety flooring supplied in a range of colours with a non abrasive surface layer.

This product incorporates a glass fibre reinforcement with a wear surface that includes a blend of PVC and cork chips.

Aqua is a specialist wetroom product good for barefoot walking such as washrooms, showers, toilets as well as for wards in hospitals.

Granit AS is a heavy-duty static dissipative floorcovering featuring a non-directional pattern providing greater safety in sensitive environments.

For its excellent sound reduction qualities, Tapiflex 164 was the obvious choice in the areas where noise sensitivity was required.

This service allows designers and architects the flexibility and creativity to develop incredible concepts using the very latest in flooring technology.

"The design of the flooring using Floorcraft was very successful and we were able to hand over the project completely snag free," states Nick.

"Additionally, we utilised the recycling of virgin offcuts offered by Tarkett Marley Floors and this also ran very smoothly, with cages being delivered and taken away thus minimising wastage in keeping with our Environmental Policy.

The new Queen's Hospital was handed over on schedule, on 16 October 2006.

It provides a range of facilities, including over 900 beds, a renal dialysis unit, 16 operating theatres, a large cancer day unit with four linear accelerators, a day nursery, an administration building, an energy centre, a bus station for eight buses, a multistorey car park and a helipad.
