Tarkett supplies new flooring to Marks and Spencer
Tarkett appointed to supply flooring for the Marks and Spencer store-remodelling programme.
Tarkett is very proud of its 16-year relationship with Marks and Spencer and in 2006 it was delighted to be appointed to supply flooring for its store-remodelling programme.
Tarkett was selected following a successful trial and roll out in over 70 stores in 2006, and is currently involved in the third phase of the programme that will see another 35 per cent of MandS's stores remodelled by the end of 2007.
Following the launch of Plan A, MandS' business wide, GBP200 million, five year 'eco-plan', the company is looking at ways to become carbon neutral, work with products from sustainable sources and minimise waste across its store remodel programme.
These are important criteria not just for the products the company manufactures and sells but also for the raw materials used in store construction.
Tarkett won the contract due to its product history, performance, price and importantly its genuinely green credentials.
The Granit IQ range was specified following a site visit, by a Marks and Spencer representative, to the company's Swedish factory to assess factory processes and review the way Tarkett recycles clean waste into new material.
Granit IQ, which stands for Intelligent Quality, is a low maintenance, durable, homogeneous vinyl floor covering, and is one of the best flooring solutions currently available.
Not only for quality, performance and design, but also for the best lifecycle cost on the market.
The tiles are reinforced with Polyurethane (PUR) and as such need the absolute minimum of heavy, wet cleaning.
No wax or polish is ever needed just dry buffing, throughout the lifetime of the flooring.
Maintenance is reduced by up to 30% and is therefore substantially more cost effective in terms of both labour and materials.
Importantly for Marks and Spencer, Granit IQ's maintenance requirements are beneficial to the environment because they greatly reduce the need for water and chemicals to maintain them.
Additionally, the product has been awarded an A rating under the BRE Environmental Profiles scheme and the Tarkett has achieved ISO 140001 accreditation for its environmental management systems.
Beige Granit IQ tiles were specified in the general merchandise areas located at the front of the store and Black tiles for use in Marks and Spencer Simply Food stores, including the franchise stores operated by Moto and B.P., and MandS Food Halls.
The tiles are 610mm x 610mm with accent colour chips within both.
Crispin Burridge, Store Design and Development Sustainability Manager, said: "We've had a long-term relationship with Tarkett and are delighted to be working with them across our store development programmes".
"Our product of choice - Granite IQ - is a great solution for the majority of our stores and we have worked closely with the Tarkett design team to develop the aesthetics of this product".
"Not only does it perform well and complement our bold new signature house-style, its environmental credentials couple well with Plan A, our five year, GBP200 million 'eco-plan'.".
