Tarkett covers every angle at Hexham Hospital

A Tarkett Marley Floors product story

New extension at Hexham Hospital was recently opened featuring 5000m2 of Tarkett flooring, including Safetred safety floors, Acczent Wood effect vinyl and high performance Optima iQ vinyl.

Tarkett was a natural choice, having already supplied 5,500m2 of floorcovering to the main hospital when it opened in 2003.

Ian White of FPL , flooring contractors to the PFI team, explained: "Following the success of the earlier installations, Tarkett products were again selected for Phase 3".

"There were a lot of complicated skirting details within the new facilities, but Tarkett's products offer excellent flexibility, making them perfect for this type of installation." The new extension features a 30-bed inpatient ward and a 10-place assessment and treatment unit to the existing Emergency Care Centre.

A Chronic Disease Management Centre, Education Centre, Laparoscopic Surgical Training Institute and Primary Care Centre complete the new facilities.

Tarkett's Acczent Wood was specified for the patient bedrooms to create a warm, homely feel, combining the look and texture of wooden flooring with all the practical benefits of a no wax, no polish vinyl.

The TopClean XP surface treatment prevents scratching and abrasion, reduces soiling and reinforces resistance to stains from iodine, rubber and shoe soles.

Available in 19 colours, ranging from light to dark species, matching existing timber features is easy.

For the en-suites, Granit Multisafe was chosen.

Specially designed for wet areas, it provides excellent grip for feet even when the floor is slippery with soap and water, while the dense, impermeable surface and well-rounded studs make it hygienic and easy to clean.

In other wet areas, such as staff and visitor toilets, Tarkett's Safetred range provides essential slip resistance properties in a heavy-duty vinyl.

The main corridors and ancillary rooms all feature Tarkett's iQ Optima vinyl flooring.

Utilising high quality raw materials, Optima offers one of the best life-cycle costs on the market requiring the minimum of heavy, wet cleaning and no wax or polish throughout its lifetime.

Maintenance costs can be reduced by up to 30% and the environment benefits with the reduction in energy, water and chemicals needed for cleaning.
