Tarmac Topfloor has installed new £70,000 production bed which will enable it to double output of its popular Fastfloor 225mm prestressed T-beams.

Leading precast flooring and stairs manufacturer Tarmac Topfloor has installed a new £70,000 production bed at its Sawston factory in Cambridgeshire, which will enable it to double output of its popular Fastfloor 225mm prestressed T-beams.

Topfloor's investment at Sawston is a welcome additional resource to meet the increased demand from housebuilders for the 225mm beam.

Sawston will now specialise in this product with Topfloor's other flooring solutions, staircases and lintels manufactured at its facilities near Derby, Lound in Nottinghamshire and Chichester respectively.

Paul Toomey, Factory Manager for Tarmac Topfloor Sawston said: "We have been manufacturing our Fastfloor T-beams at Sawston for more than 6 years now and the expertise we have developed here is amongst the very best in the concrete industry.

This new bed ensures we can double production of our 225mm T-beams." Topfloor has experienced growing demand for the 225mm T-beam from housebuilders as they increase innovation in housing design.

The 225mm T-beam provides greater strength over a longer span than the 150mm or 175mm beams which delivers savings on foundation costs as supporting walls can be replaced by lightweight partitions.

This is particularly important given that more and more construction is on brownfield sites which may require expensive remediation.

Topfloor's Fastfloor beam and block flooring system remains a popular choice in both the residential and commercial sectors, with machine-made and moulded concrete T-beams.

The recent development of the system, Fastfloor Heatsave, replaces standard infill building blocks with purpose designed EPS panels to deliver improved thermal efficiency for ground floors in line with the latest Part L of the Building Regulations.
