Tamdown Regeneration celebrate removing its one millionth tonne of bio-remediated soil under the Environment Agency's new single remediation permit licence.

One of the country?s leading remediation companies, Tamdown Regeneration, has celebrated a groundbreaking achievement.

The firm which is part of the Tamdown Group recently treated its one millionth tonne of bio-remediated soil using the Environment Agency?s new single remediation permit licence.

The work which took place in North Feltham on behalf of Slough Estates involved the regeneration of an old petrol filling station site in order to prepare the land for commercial and light industrial use.

Tamdown Regeneration Director Chris Doré said: ?We were one of the first companies to push through an application under the new single remediation permit and it was as much a learning curve for the Environment Agency as it was for us.

The work at North Feltham Garages also signified the treatment of our one millionth tonne of soil, since the Regeneration arm of the Tamdown group was founded in 2000, so it was a groundbreaking piece of work for us in more ways than one!? Fuel tanks at the North Feltham site had leaked petrol and diesel into ground contaminating soil and floating on groundwater.

The Tamdown team excavated soils and the contamination was then biodegraded by treatment in biopiles.

The free product and contaminated water were pumped to an oil-water separation tank after which they were sent to an activated carbon filter where they were treated before being discharged to the sewer.

Chris Dore added: ?The project took just 16 weeks to complete and Slough Estates were delighted with our work.? The Tamdown Group which celebrates its 30th birthday this year installs groundworks, infrastructure and concrete frames on some of the country?s largest development sites.

It has offices in Braintree and Maidenhead.
