100% Materials feature at The Building Centre
100% Materials, an installation showcasing the latest innovations in materials set to revolutionise the design industry is set to be opened at The Building Centre.
100% Materials, an installation showcasing the latest innovations in materials set to revolutionise the design industry, which was launched as a central feature at this year's 100% Detail, is now set to be opened at The Building Centre on 14th November 2005.
Designed and curated by Chris Lefteri, author of a recent series of materials books, the installation aims to provoke and engage designers, encourage them to utilise these new materials in a range of applications, from architecture to furniture, lighting, accessories and packaging.
Successfully shown for the first time in September 2004 at 100% Detail, the 2005 edition is an expansion of the launch version with custom-built display pods available for individual manufacturers.
Focusing on technology transfer, 100% Materials will be a mine of information and inspiration for all involved in the design industry; from industrial, product and interior designers to architects, engineers and specifiers.
Products include: a material that breathes and feels like human skin but looks like a piece of jelly; a lucid glass used to make architectural panels and a strip of titanium metal that can be bent and twisted but remembers, and returns to, its original shape.
On the success of this exhibition, Chris Lefteri comments, "The interest and attention paid to innovative materials and technology transfer is outstanding".
"The feature was packed with people touching, feeling, poking and smelling the materials".
"We want to bring to life some of the most exciting new materials, presented in a format that is tactile, animated and thought provoking - designed to excite and amaze".
