The Building Centre joins the AECB
Membership comes at a time when The Building Centre has created a dedicated area within the Exhibition in central London, to focus on products that are suitable for 'Sustainable Design'.
The Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB) was established in 1989 to increase awareness within the construction industry of the need to respect, protect, preserve and enhance the environment, principles that have become known collectively as "sustainability".
The Association numbers local authorities, housing associations, builders, architects, designers, consultants and manufacturers among its membership and is proud to have Professor Chris Baines as its Honorary President.
Our membership comes at a time when The Building Centre has created a dedicated area within the Exhibition, here in central London, to focus on products that are suitable for 'Sustainable Design'.
Currently we attract some 2,500 visitors to the Centre each week through the range of activities that we promote.
Companies currently exhibiting in the Eco Zone include:- Lafarge, Hydropath, Mechoshade, Finn Forest, Sikkens, Powergen, Sharp, Sola Lighting.
Commenting on the new Eco Zone, Paul Hyett, Chairman of RyderHKS and Past President of the RIBA said: "We are the first generation to knowingly hand the planet to our children in a worse condition than we inherited it.
That is the stark and awful reality that we face".
"Our responsibility is awesome: We must completely rethink our relationship with our host planet - we cannot go on like this".
"Time is running out - 50% of all materials produced annually around the world are used in building".
"45% of all energy is used in buildings".
"40% of all water is used buildings".
"46% of all CO2 emissions (the main cause of global warming) come from buildings".
"Three areas of particular opportunity exist to help our planet:".
"* Renewable forms of energy (e.g wind and hydro-electric power) * Water conservation and recycling".
"* Environmentally friendly material and component production".
"So what can you do?".
"Choose products and materials that are renewable and ecologically safe".
"And choose products and materials that are made by manufacturers and suppliers who have adopted environmentally responsible facility management policies".
"The Building Centre believes that our children and our children's children deserve better".
"We must use industry and technology to solve problems: not create them".
"That is why we have set up this special exhibition area which will continually highlight manufacturers and products that offer that better, safer, future.".
