SPANS - Exhibition: viaducts, bridges and walkways

The Building Centre's 'SPANS' Exhibition: viaducts, bridges and walkways launched with talk by Michel Virlogeux, the engineer behind the renowned Millau Viaduct in France.

24 July - 20 September 2008.

The talk provided an insight into the design, architecture and engineering of the structure to an appreciative audience.

This talk and the reception that followed proved a lively start to an exhibition focusing on a number of contemporary bridges, exploring their design and celebrating the joy of crossing, connecting places and engineering.

One of the major features of the exhibition is the rapid prototype model of the Crossings project in Dorset produced specifically for the exhibition by Cadventure.

Other major projects include the Xstrata Treetop Walkway at Kew Gardens, the 2012 Olympic Park Footbridge, the Mobius Bridge in Bristol, the Living Bridge in Limerick and many others.

Additionally, the Cafe Gallery will host an exhibition on the Millau Viaduct.

The exhibition is part of the joint Building Centre/New London Architecture education programme and is curated and produced by The Building Centre Trust.

Morning Talks Series.

In conjunction with The Building Centre's major exhibition: 'SPANS: viaducts, bridges and walkways', there is a series of morning talks by leading architects and engineers who have designed bridges featured in the exhibition.

Places are free of charge, but booking is essential.
