Applications to join building courses up to mid-January had risen by 16 per cent. Civil engineering courses are up by 25 per cent and architecture by 15 per cent.
These awards are made to students who have shown potential in the early part of their studies and are intended to provide study support during the final year.
A requirement of each scholarship is that the recipient and the host institution agree to undertake a major piece of work during the final year, as part of the programme of studies, this is then submitted to CIOB for possible publication.
The scholarship does not require the recipient to carry out work over and above that required to attain their degree award.
