BRE is sponsoring a 'Watertight' conference on developing integrated solutions to flooding risks, to be held at its Watford headquarters on 7th March 2006 The building research establishment points out that currently more than two million properties in England and Wales are at risk from flooding, a figure likely to rise as climate change progresses

The main question will be what further action can be taken to make the United Kingdom's housing stock more flood resilient.

With immense implications for housing providers and the construction industry, the subject includes building partnerships to minimise the impact of flooding on major new developments, promoting innovative approaches to both new build and refurbishment, and raising awareness of solutions being applied in Europe and beyond.

Speakers will focus on design and planning to reduce the incidence of water ingress, increase the robustness of materials and set standards for construction workmanship.
