BRE has acquired Building Performance Group (BPG), a London-based practice specialising in the whole life performance of large building projects This brings new fields of expertise into BRE's existing whole life performance business, together with bespoke software tools predicting service life and building component costs

BPG's team of architects, building surveyors, quantity surveyors, engineers and construction professionals will move to the Building Research Establishment at Garston, Watford.

Dr Peter Bonfield, managing director of BRE's construction division, indicated that it is the establishment's intention to expand this aspect of its business.

The two organisations have complementary strengths, he said, and joining them would create a strong portfolio of building performance and value services.

"These services", he said, "have become hugely important as the industry strives to build and refurbish in a more sustainable way".

Chris Watson, BPG's managing director, hailed the move as a great way forward for his team.

"The combined resources of BRE and BPG will considerably enhance the range of services we are able to offer our clients on whole life performance projects," he said.
