CIOB-CIH joint awarding body will offer coherent programme of education for housing maintenance, repairs and development professionals.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) have been working in partnership to establish a suite of qualifications, which will offer a coherent programme of education for housing maintenance, repairs and development professionals.

The aim is to support development, underpin progression and ultimately assist staff retention.

The Qualification and Curriculum Authority has approved the establishment of the CIOB-CIH Joint Awarding Body.

This exciting new entity will offer a range of qualifications from Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) to a Level 4 Certificate / Diploma programme (HNC equivalent), covering maintenance management, repairs management and development.

Paul Wainwright CIOB Head of Education and Training said, "This qualification addresses the challenge for the CIOB to raise standards in the very important housing sector and improve the opportunities for employees to develop their full potential." Martin Winn, CIH Director of Professional Development said: "CIH is delighted at the announcement; it is the latest development in our partnership with the CIOB.

The new qualifications will address a skills gap in the industry, and contribute to a better educated and more professional workforce".

Over the next few months the CIOB and CIH will be accrediting centres to deliver these new courses.
