The Chartered Institute of Building has expanded its activities in Macau due to the buoyant construction market in the region, which is being driven by a boom in the casino industry.

The CIOB's Hong Kong branch has bought together industry professionals, academics and government authorities through a one day event and in collaboration with the Macau Construction Association and Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, the Macau Institution of Engineers and the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau.

The event featured a number of keynote speakers from Hong Kong and Macau.

Amongst the topics of discussion included project management, professional recognition of professionals in Macau and risk management.

Fabio Casula, CIOB head of international commented: "This is again another sign of the entrepreneurship of our Hong Kong office in developing its activities in a fast growing construction market like Macau.

Our Hong Kong office already has an established Building Manager of the Year Award and we expect to deploy this prestigious event in Macau in the near future.

"Macau is very much part of the CIOB's strategic developments in the Asia Pacific region, and this event is a sign of our ability to react quickly to market needs in the region.".
