The new academy, which is partly funded by the Thomas Telford School - the first academy to be set up in the UK - is being constructed on the site of the former T.P.Riley School in Bloxwich.
Like the top-performing Thomas Telford School, it will offer a high degree of IT training including the online GNVQ course in information and communication technology.
All mechanical and electrical services are being installed by the Dodd Group.
TIS Ltd., a Dodd Group company and a Tyco Electronics ND and I (NETCONNECT Designer and Installer), is responsible for the IT infrastructure, representing a total order value of £350,000.
The futuristic building will eventually house over 1000 pupils, all of whom will have direct access to a PC via the network.
To service the school's requirements, TIS opted for a CISCO networking environment, Category 6 cabling and a fibre backbone, with around 1000 outlets and up to 15 remote cabinet locations.
The fact that the school is virtually being built from scratch means that the cabling system could be designed and installed as an integral part of the overall building concept, aided by features such as a false floor in the dedicated computer.
TIS Ltd.
has installed a number of similar systems based on AMP NETCONNECT products in other schools throughout the UK, and is expecting more orders as the Academy programme expands nationwide. Request a free brochure from Tyco Electronics/AMP NETCONNECT Division ...
