TDSi, one of the world's leading manufacturers of Access Control security systems, has announced the acquisition of the business by the TDSi management team.

TDSi (Time and Data Systems International Limited), one of the world's leading manufacturers of Access Control security systems, has announced the acquisition of the business by the TDSi management team.

A leader and innovator in state of the art Access Control and integrated security solutions, the acquisition of the business from Upperpoint Manufacturing Limited signals an exciting new phase for the Poole-based company.

Established in 1982 to develop state-of-the-art technologies and product applications related to time and attendance and to access control, TDSI has built up a global reputation for quality and innovation in both hardware software design: today more than 20,000 sites worldwide currently use TDSi solutions and more than one million people carry TDSi access cards.

TDSi manages its own worldwide distributor and dealer network in 30 countries with a significant proportion of sales being derived from exports each year since formation.

Recent export successes include the supply of TDSi technology to the National Bank of China and telecommunications company China Netcom.

John Davies, Managing Director of TDSi, said the management buyout would be to the benefit of the company and customers alike.

"As an independent entity TDSi will be able to benefit from the best of two worlds," he said.

"The company will be in a strong position to continue and strengthen our trading relationships with the Upperpoint companies and at the same time push forward with our growth and product innovation plans without recourse to competing for group resources.

"Our channel partners and customers will continue to receive the high standard of service they have come to expect.

TDSi looks forward to building on these standards and to the provision of new innovations in Access Control and Integrated Security Systems." Alun John, Chief Executive Officer of Upperpoint Manufacturing Limited, outlined the reasons behind the sale and wished TDSi well for the future.

"Upperpoint has experienced sustained and rapid growth in its CCTV business and our strategy is to develop and manufacture products at the leading edge of technology.

This requires a considerable investment in development expenditure, which represents approximately 10% of our revenues.

"We have decided to focus our future investments on our core CCTV activity and are delighted to be able to pass the TDSi Access Control business to members of its management team, who will no doubt build upon and accelerate the investment that we have already made.
