The Civic Trust welcomes the report published this week by ODPM: Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions Committee of their report on Living Places: Cleaner, Safer, Greener.
Unlike other award schemes, the Civic Trust Awards celebrate not only design excellence, but also focus on the relationship between projects and the environment and community in which they are set.
Entries are encouraged from small projects as well as large, and the benefit each project brings to its community will be taken into account in the judging process.
New buildings, restoration, landscape design, town centre improvements and public art are all eligible to enter.
The Awards run on a two-year cycle, and this year entries are invited from metropolitan areas and major cities (list attached below).
To be eligible, the scheme must have been completed between 1 January 2001 and 30 September 2003 (for projects in Newport and Swansea, between 1 January 2000 and 30 September 2003).
The 2004 Civic Trust Awards also include nine Special Awards, for particular aspects of excellence.
These cover issues such as access, town centre improvements, community regeneration, partnership, sustainability.
There are two special awards specifically for projects in Wales and Northern Ireland.
