The National Insulation Association is a major force within the insulation industry.

Although an independent body, The National Insulation Association is recognised by Government departments and other official bodies as the national trade association for the total industry The continuing aim of the Association is to raise and maintain high standards of competence and conduct in the business of insulation and to ensure a good service to the specifier, the public and to industry

The Association has its own Code of Practice and all companies applying for membership are closely vetted.

Provided a member of the NIA is chosen for the installation of cavity wall insulation, he will be covered by an Agr?ment Certificate if he installs mineral wool or polystyrene bead, or be a British Standard Registered Firm if he installs foam in Great Britain.

Materials used by members include mineral wool (rock and glass), expanded polystyrene beads and u.f.

foam.

Thermally efficient loft insulation is best undertaken by a professional contractor, aware of and capable of advising upon detailed needs for the preservation of ventilation in lofts, and the improving standards of pipes and tank insulation under Building Regulations.

Members use British Standard materials, installing both manual and automatic loft insulation systems throughout Great Britain to BS 5803.

All windows and external doors should be draught proofed.

Draught proofing materials should be to BS 7386 and installed to Code of Practice BS 7880.

The NIA sees the insulation market expanding for all material sectors, particularly in the new build area, due to the raised thermal insulation standards, as well as retrofit, due to Government and other schemes to cut fuel poverty and fuel emission.
