Thermalite, the country's leading manufacturer of aircrete blocks, offers a range of tried and trusted solutions to help House Builders meet PPG3 requirements.

As space for building becomes increasingly limited, the Government has set out its policies on different aspects of planning with the Planning Policy Guidance Note Number 3; Housing (PPG3), requiring house builders to use brownfield sites to build up rather than out Housebuilders however, need not worry as Thermalite, the country's leading manufacturer of aircrete blocks, offers a range of tried and trusted solutions to help them meet PPG3 requirements

As land is limited, PPG3 guidelines suggest that planners concentrate additional housing development within urban areas, re-use previously developed land and convert existing buildings and brownfield sites before moving onto greenfield sites.

To help overcome the lack of space and address the country's housing needs, it is becoming increasingly popular to build multiple-storey housing and apartments over traditional two level homes.

The number of three storey townhouses being built has risen and the number of detached houses declined, increasing the demand for strong, quality blocks, such as Thermalite's Hi-Strength.

Thermalite Hi-Strength blocks are the perfect solution for multi-storey housing, having been specifically developed to meet the requirements of builders confronted with situations where loading conditions require either 7N or 10N/mm2 materials.

Thermalite Hi-Strength can be used to meet the structural performance criteria for most three or four storey buildings, such as those required by PPG3 guidelines.

The light weight of Thermalite means that most Hi-Strength can be supplied at a block weight less than 20kg, in accordance with Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC) guidelines, which make them safe and easy to handle, thus speeding up the actual build process of multiple storeys.

Further more, Thermalite's Thin Joint Mortar, with its quick drying properties, reduces build time as the depth of the mortar is reduced from 10mm to 3mm or less.

Mark Hampshire, Thermalite product Manager commented: "With the PPG3 guidelines we are now seeing a new generation of housing.

As space is limited, housebuilders have been forced to build up rather than out, which is easily achieved with the use of Thermalite's aircrete technology.

"Thermalite is constantly developing and reviewing products to ensure they enable our customers to comply with new regulations and legislations.".
