Garrick House, Burkes Road in Beaconsfield, is a brand new luxury, detached house, with an amazing price tag of £3.5 million.

Constructed on behalf of Countryside Properties by main contractors ER Armfield, this remarkable six-bedroom house, standing three storeys high, has made extensive use of Thermalite aircrete blocks for the inner walls of this sizeable abode Completed earlier this year, this outstanding house was featured in the Sunday Times as an example of sustainable construction and energy efficiency for a large private dwelling

The arts and crafts style structure is an individual design, with a central double height hallway, five main reception rooms, an orangery, and a self contained suite above a triple garage.

Thermalite's sustainable blocks have been used as an integral element in the wall build process of Garrick House.

Over 960m2 of 100mm Hi-Strength 7 blocks, specified by Architects Maurice Phillips Partnership for their sustainability and thermal performance, have been used in the inner leaf of the cavity wall around the building envelope and within dividing walls.

The use of Thermalite's sustainable blocks helped the building attain an excellent SAP energy efficient rating, calculated by Thermalite's Technical Advisory Service team.

Hi-Strength 7 blocks have been specifically developed to meet the requirements of a 7N/mm2 block.

It is half the weight of other blocks of equal compressive strength with the 100mm option weighing just 7.5kg.

In addition it provides significant improvements in productivity and thermal insulation.

Because of its light weight, it is ideal for use in constructions of more than two storeys high.

The low energy properties of the Thermalite aircrete blocks are crucial to the overall efficiency of the building.

As far as acoustic value is concerned, Hi-Strength offers significant acoustic advantages over comparable materials, meeting all the criteria required by the BBA.

Architect Maurice Phillips of the Maurice Phillips Partnership commented: "It was necessary, in the construction of Garrick House, to select materials that promoted the most efficient use of labour resources and speed of construction.

Thermalite's Hi Strength blocks offered a number of significant construction advantages over comparable materials, including the fact that they were available in a strength of 7 newtons and complied fully with CDM regulations.

"We worked closely with the design and build contractors, Armfield, to ensure that the specification of all materials was correct in order to achieve the required overall SAP rating.

As we always use Thermalite, we were confident in the ability of this specific product to help achieve this successfully." Garrick House offers a very high standard of construction and energy efficiency, great architectural appeal, the finest luxury features of a modern home and a superb location in one of the South East's most prestigious commuter towns, and has a guide price reflecting the standard of build of £3.5 million.
