Thermalite Hi-Strength blocks are the perfect solution for multi-storey housing, having been specifically developed to meet the requirements of builders confronted new industry standards.

Changes in density and style of housing, as a result of planning guidelines such as Planning Policy Guidance Note 3, Housing (PPG3), have meant developers are increasingly keen to find cost effective building solutions that guarantee compliance with the requirements set out by the Government Significantly, Thermalite's Aircrete products feature as a modern construction material, capable of meeting the stringent requirements laid down by PPG3 and offering the ideal solution for a fast and efficient method of construction

Currently, the average for new housing density in England is twenty-five dwellings per hectare.

However, statistics show that more than half of this housing is actually built at less than twenty dwellings per hectare meaning that the remainder is built significantly closer together! To help overcome the lack of space and address the country's housing needs, it is becoming increasingly popular to build multi-storey flats and apartments in place of the traditional two level house.

The number of three-storey townhouses being built has risen and the number of detached houses declined increasing the demand for strong, quality blocks, such as Thermalite's Hi-Strength.

Thermalite Hi-Strength blocks are the perfect solution for multi-storey housing, having been specifically developed to meet the requirements of builders confronted with situations where loading conditions require either 7N or 10N/mm2 materials.

The light weight of Thermalite means that most Hi-Strength products can be supplied at a weight less than 20kg, in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines on manual handling, which makes them safe and easy to use and speeds up the overall build process.

Neil Weeks, business development manager for Thermalite commented: "Changes in density and a new generation of housing, as a result of PPG3, have seen block manufacturers develop innovative products and building methods for foundations and walls.

Thermalite is no exception, providing modern methods of construction, such as Thin Joint Masonry, Tongue and Groove Trenchblocks and Hi-Strength, all of which are making the housing construction process easier and safer and helping developers achieve the standards set out by PPG3.".
