MLRS Architects of Brighton, formerly M.L.
Design Group, in conjunction with developer Belmont Homes, specified Thermalite's Hi-Strength blocks for the redevelopment work, due to their excellent thermal performance and compressive strength.
Available in strengths of 7N/mm2 or 10N/mm2, Thermalite's Hi-Strength products are ideal for use in multi-storey applications, such as flats and town houses, where loading conditions require stronger building blocks.
This provided the ideal building solution for the Kings Barnes project where build heights varied across the project from three to seven stories.
As the product is only half the weight of other blocks of equal strength, Belmont Homes also found that they could significantly improve their productivity, with Hi Strength facilitating faster construction times and higher builds.
Carlo Schifano, of MLRS Architects remarked: "It was necessary to select materials that promoted the most efficient use of labour and speed of construction.
Thermalite's Hi Strength blocks offered a number of significant construction advantages over comparable materials, including the fact that they met our strength requirements and complied fully with health and safety regulations for handling on site.
With planning guidelines stipulating higher density construction, developers, such as Belmont, are looking for cost effective walling systems that help meet these guidelines accurately, quickly and safely.
Thermalite's Hi-Strength blocks provided a modern material that proved to be the ideal solution for a fast and efficient construction at the Kings Barnes redevelopment.
