Help With Part L And Metal Claddings
The Steel Construction Institute, with assistance from MCRMA and NFRC, has produced two new Technical Information Sheets to help designers and contractors with Part L, Metal Claddings.
The guide was produced following an extensive test programme at Salford University and analysis of the test results to validate the design rules.
The opportunity has also been taken to standardise the connection components (plate thicknesses, overall dimensions and shoulder bolt size).
The rules have been formulated in design tables similar to those used for fin plate connection design.
It covers section sizes ranging from 610x305x238UB to 305x102x25UB in grade S355 and S275.
The tables allow Quicon T-pieces with either a single or double column of keyholes to be used and the document also provides detailing guidance.
Caunton Engineering has a reputation for innovation and believes that Quicon offers significant opportunities.
It is discussing, with a number of clients, the possibility of using the system in the near future.
The company has already used Quicon on a pilot project at Dartford's Edison's Park, in February 2002, achieving a time saving for erection of 50%.
Steelwork contractors who are interested in licensing Quicon should contact the SCI.
