SCI (Steel Construction Institute) has won the contract to develop a new website and electronic Science and Innovation Newsletter for the HSE.

This major £55,000 project (initial design and build) will be developed by the SCI over the summer and will be launched in September 2004 Since August 1999, the SCI has published the HSE's quarterly newsletter, Offshore Research Focus (ORF)

At the beginning of the publishing contract, the SCI redesigned the existing paper based newsletter and also established an on-line version at www.orf.co.uk.

Based on ideas generated by SCI and user feedback, the website was further developed until it became so successful that, in March 2002, the expensive paper-based newsletter was phased out.

The on-line newsletter has continued to grow in popularity to such an extent that the HSE decided to extend the scope of ORF to the whole of the HSE website.

This is a major undertaking for the SCI.

The HSE website will incorporate the new S and I Newsletter which will be e-mailed to subscribers.

The operation is similar to that of the SCI's website www.steel-sci.com and its newsletter e-SCI News.

A range of additional facilities will also be provided to the new HSE website, including e-mail notifications by industry category and the ability to create individual bespoke newsletters that can be printed and sent as e-mails.
