Housedeck Foundation System: Facing New Challenges
Developing housing, industrial and commercial sites on previously contaminated or brownfield sites, means the construction industry need to come up with innovative solutions.
This insulation, Termex, is made from shredded waste newsprint which is pounded into tiny pieces, treated to ensure it is fire and vermin resistant and then blown onto, or into, the areas where it is needed.
Termex is sustainable, being made from waste newsprint, which has been manufactured from wood pulp, which in turn comes from sustainable forestry in Finland.
For every tree, which is felled in Finland seven more must be planted by law.

The timber frame housing market has grown rapidly in the UK and has increased its market share for each of the past seven years, it now stands at 17% - double the market share it had in 1998.
Bryan Woodley, Chief Executive of the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA), had this to say on sustainability: "The issue of sustainability is growing and architects and builders are under increasing pressure to use sustainable building products".
"Timber frame has a genuinely unique combination of environmental credentials matched by no other building product; it is sustainable, renewable, natural, recyclable and has a low embodied energy".
Using a unique method of application Termex is guaranteed to stay in place and not settle.
Settlement has been the major problem when using cellulose insulation in the past.
Settling causes voids and cold spots which also increase the likelihood of condensation within the structure.
David Campbell, Managing Director of Termex had been introduced to Termex whilst visiting the Finnish manufacturer of log buildings who supply his other company, Finnish Living Homes, "I was so impressed by Termex, it is quick to apply, is a great use of a waste product and has excellent insulating properties".
David said, "We are delighted to have brought this product to the UK and look forward to being able to offer the UK building market an environmentally friendly and sustainable insulation alternative".
Termex is holding demonstration days and if you would like to attend please telephone Jane Johnson on 01347 821020 to arrange a convenient time.
