Employers will share their proven solutions for creating "The Flexible Workforce" at a masterclass at Manchester's Manufacturing Institute.

Employers will share their proven solutions for creating "The Flexible Workforce" at a masterclass at Manchester's Manufacturing Institute on Thursday 26 January 2006 Speakers from Dairy Crest, RAC Rescue and Prysmian Cables will demonstrate their outstanding approaches to achieving improved performance and capacity flexibility through the introduction of annualised hours

They will show how they have gained employee commitment to introduce a flexible working culture with impressive results.

Speakers from the TUC and ACAS will also provide powerful perspectives on flexible working.

"Many manufacturers respond to unpredictable customer demand patterns and ever shorter lead times by throwing money into overtime, excess stock and surplus capacity", said Julie Madigan, chief executive of the Manufacturing Institute.

"Our speakers will demonstrate another solution, which has helped their businesses to stabilise and control wage bills while increasing manufacturing flexibility and productivity.

"Small and large companies alike can benefit from introducing flexible working patterns such as annualised hours.

Such techniques are also pertinent to the service sector and our manufacturing speakers will be joined by RAC Rescue which has boosted customer service and achieved efficiency savings of £20 million since adopting such employment practices.
