UpRight, which is now part of UK company The Tanfield Group Plc, has secured an order for 100 TM12 mast lift machines, with a total value of more than $1 million (US) Darren Kell, business development director for The Tanfield Group Plc, said: "This confirms our belief that there is a huge latent demand for UpRight products

"The USA is a multi-billion pound market for powered access equipment - nearly as big as the rest of the world put together.

"It is also the most competitive sales territory, so we are delighted that we are already making in-roads here." Tanfield formally took ownership of UpRight Powered Access on Monday, June 12, 2006.

The company previously signed Heads of Terms with UpRight International on April 26, 2006.

Roy Stanley, chief executive of Tanfield, said: "We have already seen a significant uplift in enquiries and sales of UpRight Powered Access products.

"We are in negotiations with several major companies, over the supply of similar significant volumes of UpRight products and we anticipate winning further orders".

The TM12 is an electrically powered compact mast lift, which has an extended height of six metres.

It is ideal for applications such as stock picking and record storage retrieval in offices and warehouses.

Tanfield is transferring assembly of UpRight machines from Ireland to vigo250, a 250,000sq ft flagship manufacturing facility in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

This new site - formerly occupied by LG Electronics - will also house a production line for Tanfield's zero emission vehicle manufacturer Smith Electric Vehicles.

The purchase of UpRight Powered Access, for an undisclosed sum, included sales and distribution channels in Japan, the USA (California) and a UK spare parts centre in Telford.

Mr Kell said: "We are currently working on increasing machine production to meet demand, while we also look to improve availability of spare parts and customer service in general.

UpRight was one of the biggest powered access manufacturers in the world not long ago and remains a brand that is respected across the globe.

We are confident that we can grow this business by providing a level of service that matches the industry's expectations".

Tanfield recently announced the appointment of a new Finance Director, Charles Brooks, 43, and the resignation of Tim Robinson.

The AIM-listed plc reported a £2m profit on £22m turnover for the year ending December 2005.
