Thorworld Managing Director, John Meale, said: "This is an extremely important and topical subject considering the current problems with inferior loading dock equipment, which does not have the CE mark, coming into the UK.
Using materials handling equipment that does not carry the CE mark, whether imported or not, threatens the health and safety of personnel in the workplace and businesses could be risking prosecution if they use it".
As an active member of the British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF) and the Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment Manufacturers (ALEM), Thorworld Industries has been closely involved in the preparation and development of European safety standards.
John Meale is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics (FCILT), a former President of the BMHF, a past Chairman of ALEM and is currently a board member of the Federation Europeenne de la Manutention (FEM), the European Federation of Materials Handing, and is also President of the FEM Product Group on Elevating and Loading Equipment.
New products in the brochure include the Dockloada scissor lift platform.
The fixed unit can be installed either inside or outside a building or door and can accommodate a much larger range of vehicle heights than dock levellers, from double deck trailers to transit vans.
Trucks featured include pallet and sack models, including a powered version capable of dealing with loads up to 2,000 Kg at speeds of up to 9km/h, and a counterbalanced container lift truck.
To bridge and seal the gap between a truck and loading dock are a wide selection of dock plates and dockboards, dock levellers and seals and shelters.
Among new dock loading and unloading aids are an electro-mechanical vehicle wheel lock, which secures virtually any trailer type by engaging the driver's side rear tyre with an integral steel barrier, and a steel wheel chock.
Also new is the Dock Guardian safety barrier which helps prevent fork trucks, pallet trucks and personnel from falling off a loading dock.
It is designed to stop a weight of 4.5 tonnes travelling up to 4 mph, with little or no damage to the safety barrier.
Other restraint and protection products featured include sleeping policemen, vehicle restraints, safety bollards, protector brackets/curbs, flexi safety barriers, impact protectors and stabiliser plates.
