Steady growth in timber frame construction
Timber frame construction now accounts for almost 17% of the new homes market, according to market statistics reported at the recent AGM for the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA).
UKTFA combined its own innovative and user-friendly technical literature with a focused and expertly selected range of material from other specialist sources to support its products and make them easier to understand, specify and use.
The judges were particularly impressed with the clarity of presentation and the use of simple and clear graphics.
The result is a very useful and clearly targeted information pack.
Bryan Woodley, Chief Executive of the UKTFA, said: "A key part of the UKTFA's mission is to disseminate existing research and technical information, as well as to support new research.
It's great to have this work recognised through this award".
The purpose of the Technical Pack, he added, is to allow more effective knowledge sharing with designers, specifiers, engineers and other construction professionals who might be interested in working with timber frame.
Three further entries were shortlisted for the Award, which was presented at London's prestigious Savoy Hotel on 9th September: * John Boddy Timber - Buyers' Guide to Temperate and Tropical Hardwoods, commended for its excellent illustrations, enabling buyers to fully understand the character and appearance of each species before buying.
* Bonakemi - comprehensive information for both stockists and users of its products for finishing and maintaining wood floors.
Examples included material for product training, telephone and on-line support.
* Richard Burbidge - clearly presented support material for its stair balustrading products, including a trade brochure, planning service, fast-track CAD drawings database for the architectural specifier and demonstration DVDs.
Mr Abbott added that TRADA was yet again delighted with the quality of the entries received.
"Good technical information is essential to underpin and support the use of timber in construction.
Our askTRADA website is at the core of our own activities and we applaud other organisations and businesses which give priority to developing technical support through information".
