The only way to meet the demand for cost-effective, low-maintenance housing is to switch to timber frame says UK Timber Frame Association According to figures released by the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) in June 2005, over 420,000 units were sold in 2004, generating a 17.9% increase in the demand for timber frame units.
At present, one in six homes in the UK is timber frame.
In line with plans for rapid expansion, McInerney Homes North West - the quality provider of residential homes in the North West - has switched to timber frames, provided by Eleco Timber Frame, the fabrication arm of Eleco Building Products.
Eleco is a UK listed, technology led group producing an integrated range of building and offsite precast concrete products and related software and services.
Peter Russell, Managing Director of McInerney Homes North West, comments on his company's success with the new Eleco timber frames: "Currently we have eleven sites at various stages of development across the region".
"With so many projects under way at one time it's essential that we have the best suppliers and contractors working with us on all of our developments".
"McInerney Homes North West strives to work with innovative products and suppliers who can ensure the quality build finish our customers expect".
"Eleco Timber Frame is a prime example of a supplier who has provided us with a product which not only ensures our build programme stays on track but also within budget".
"Staff at Eleco Timber Frame work closely with our team in planning production ensuring all activity is linked with our build programme".
"All of our construction staff agree that the Eleco timber frames are the best engineered product of its kind on the market; this is partly due to the ease in which the kit fits together when on site." Commenting on the project, Paul Taylor, Director, Eleco plc said, "Timber frame is not new, but the structures offered by Eleco Timber Frame are changing the pace of the industry".
"As well as the stand alone structure, which includes the timber frame, Eleco has provided a total solution to party acoustic regulations, using a combination of Ecojoist, the innovative open web floor joist system, and ElecoFloor, the acoustic floating floor system, which McInerney Homes are now adopting".
"Having worked closely with Peter Russell over the last year, Eleco Timber Frame has established commitment from McInerney Homes on the benefits of Eleco Timber Frame over traditional timber frame, such as lighter construction (no plywood) speed of fix, on site handling (open frame) and pure rigidity (no twisting)".
"The panels also come complete with pre-fabricated apertures for windows and doors".
"Eleco Timber Frame structures are constructed using unique methods that result in panels with less than a 5mm inaccuracy margin".
"The off site construction also means that on site construction times are reduced and erection can take place all year round." Eleco is a UK listed, technology led group producing an integrated range of building and offsite precast concrete products and related software and services.
Eleco has three divisions: Building Products which supplies timber engineering components, metal roofing and cladding; Precast which manufactures structural precast concrete products; and Software, whose solutions include project management, 3D visualisation, timber engineering services and design supply chain integration.
