UK Timber Frame Association publish first Code of Practice for Engineered Wood Products for designers, developers, architects and specifiers using EWP for residential construction in UK.
The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has published the first Code of Practice for Engineered Wood Products (EWP) for designers, developers, architects and specifiers who are considering using EWP for residential construction in the UK The Code of Practice discusses the range of engineered wood products that are available to the designer and provides generic guidance on good structural design and detailing practice

Steady growth in timber frame construction
Timber frame construction now accounts for almost 17% of the new homes market, according to market statistics reported at the recent AGM for the UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA).
It explains the correct specification, design and detailing of all products, particularly I-Joists and Open-Web Joists.
The first edition of the Code of Practice deals with materials, design and workmanship for EWP when used in floor construction.
Future editions will cover roof and wall construction.
Bryan Woodley, chief executive of the UKTFA, said: "Engineered wood products have seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years among new home designers and developers".
"Capable of long clear spans, they provide increased design flexibility, and when installed correctly tend to reduce snagging and call backs".
"Builders like their ease of use and homebuyers enjoy flatter, quieter floors." The Code of Practice has been prepared by all of the principal manufacturers of engineered wood products supplying the market, working within the UKTFA's Engineered Wood Products Committee.
