The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) has announced that it is now accepting entries for the Structural Awards 2007.

The Structural Awards recognise and reward the work of the world's most talented structural designers and their indispensable contribution to the built environment.

There are 11 awards categories designed to reflect the breadth of projects for which structural engineers are responsible; the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence is awarded to the finest example of structural engineering design from the winners of the main categories.

Structures entered must have been completed in the last year between 7 April 2006 and 13 April 2007.

The final deadline for submissions is Friday 13th April 2007 and the project shortlist will be announced Friday 3rd August 2007.

The 2006 Awards saw the number of entries increase five-fold on 2005, so the Structural Awards 2007 are expected to be even more successful.

The winning and commended projects will be announced at the gala awards ceremony on Wednesday 14th November 2007 at Lawrence Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls, London.

Dar Al-Handasah Consultants received the Supreme Award for Engineering Excellence at the Structural Awards 2006 for the Sungai Prai Bridge, which carries part of the new Outer Ring Road to Butterworth on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Other award-winning projects from 2006 include the S.S.

Great Britain (UK), Madrid Barajas Airport (Spain), Phaeno Science Centre (Germany) and Lingotto Speed Skating Oval (Italy).
