IStructE announces 2007 Gold Medal
winner
The Institution of Structural Engineers awards Gold Medal Award for 2007 to Joseph Locke for his outstanding contribution to the field of structural engineering.

Joseph Locke will be presented with this prestigious award at IStructE's Annual Dinner, which this year takes place at the Cafe Royal, London on Friday, 11th May 2007.
He will deliver his Gold Medal Address, 'A Ductile Material In A Brittle Industry', on Wednesday, 20th June 2007 at the Institute of Directors, London.
Formerly Chief Executive Officer of Watson Steel , Joseph Locke has been a professional structural engineer for nearly 50 years, during which time he has been a vital contributor to both the practical and academic arenas of structural steelwork.
He is now a Non-Executive Director of Caunton Engineering.
Amongst the recent projects he has been involved with are the stadium roof for Manchester United FC (1990), the Kansai Airport Terminal Building in Japan (1993) and the Millennium Dome (1998).
The Gold Medal is IStructE's highest individual award and is made for exceptional personal contributions to the advancement of structural engineering.
Since 1922, it has only been awarded 39 times.
Previous winners of the Gold Medal include Ove Arup (1973), Edmund Happold (1991) and Michel Virlogeux (1996).
Keith Eaton, IStructE Chief Executive, commented: 'Joseph Locke is a worthy winner of this year's Gold Medal.
This award recognises his truly outstanding ability and reputation as an international constructional steelwork engineer, his unstinting services to the structural steelwork industry, and his extensive support and involvement with the Institution of Structural Engineers.'.
