Artwork celebrates IStructE's Centenary
year
Institution of Structural Engineers has commissioned celebrated cityscape artist, Stephen Wiltshire MBE, to create an original artwork featuring iconic structures from around the world.
It recognises structural engineering's important contribution to the built environment since the Institution's first ever Council meeting held at the Ritz Hotel in London on 21 July 1908 Sixteen famous structures from around the world are featured in the artwork, drawn in Stephen Wiltshire's unique style, creating a panoramic, imaginary skyline Regarded as the most talented architectural artist in the world, Stephen is an autistic savant, and gained notoriety as a child for his remarkable ability to produce accurately detailed drawings of buildings completely from memory

Sarah Buck, President of IStructE commented: 'Stephen has an amazing ability to capture the character of a building and was the natural choice to create a cityscape that is a tribute to structural engineering.
All of the structures depicted in the artwork are landmarks in their respective cities and are fine examples of excellence in structural design'.
Stephen's pen and ink drawing is also featured on a range of merchandise including coffee mugs, mouse mats and prints of the cityscape, which are available to purchase from the Institution.
Limited edition, signed copies of the artwork are also available.
Sarah Buck added, 'These special items serve as a fitting memento of IStructE's Centenary year, and give people an opportunity to appreciate Stephen's talents'.
Stephen Wiltshire will be the subject of a Channel Five documentary titled 'Extraordinary People'.
