Peter Ross, Consultant to Ove Arup and Partners, has been appointed Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) President with the unanimous support of the Board.

As TRADA Chief Executive Andrew Abbott said, 'We were looking for a strong advocate of timber in construction, a firm believer in and supporter of TRADA and a figurehead for the Association, who was well respected across the timber and construction industries In Peter we have found a worthy ambassador who will provide insight and wisdom for the furtherance of our objectives and we are delighted that he has accepted the role.' Mr Ross retired from Ove Arup and Partners as Associate Director in 2002 and has specialised in timber for most of his working life

He has designed many structures in timber, old and new, including an innovative lamella shell at Oko-Zentrum in Germany and is well known for his work on the replacement roof of the South transept of York Minster.

He is the author of several respected books, including The Appraisal and Repair of Timber Structures, and sits on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Timber Excellence at Napier University.

About his appointment Mr Ross said: 'I feel very honoured to have been offered the post and I hope that my background as a general designer in timber will assist in promoting its wider use in building generally.'.
