Eleco plc has won the TRADA-sponsored 'Best Technical Information Support Award' for its Ecojoist timber engineering technical manual on CD-ROM.

Eleco plc has won the TRADA-sponsored 'Best Technical Information Support Award', launched this year as part of the TTJ Timber Industry Awards initiative, for its Ecojoist timber engineering technical manual on CD-ROM Timber Research and Development Association Chief Executive Andrew Abbott said the judges were 'delighted with the breadth and quality of the 12 entries received'

The Association decided to sponsor the Award, he added, because 'good technical information is essential to underpin and support the use of timber in construction.

We at TRADA have placed this at the core of our own activities, aimed at increasing specification and building markets for timber.' The Ecojoist technical manual incorporates interactive 3D visualisations of construction and product details, powered by o2c technology.

'This is the kind of graphics software that could dramatically change the way technical information is presented,' said Mr Abbott.

'It was the view of the judges that the information was well laid out, easy to follow and the use of 3D graphics brought the content to life.' The clear, uncluttered format of the manual was especially commended.

John Ketteley, Executive Chairman of Eleco comments, 'Eleco has long emphasised the importance of technology in support of our building products and we are now really pleased to have received this award for our CD and online Ecojoist Technical Manual.

I am also delighted that our "o2c" 3D graphics technology has been recognised by the judges as a tool that can radically change the way that technical product and training information can be provided to the timber and construction sectors by architects, engineers and manufacturers using "o2c".' Three further entries were shortlisted for the Award, which was presented at London's prestigious Savoy hotel on 9th September: * The Housebuilder Range Technical Folder submitted by the A.

Proctor Group, who supply technically advanced products such as breather membrane papers to the construction industry.

The group places great emphasis on providing good technical support to its customers.

The judges felt this was a clear, well-designed, comprehensive manual that was easy to navigate and use.

* Current literature range from the LS Group Ltd, who manufacture performance rated doorsets.

Special mention was made of the recent publication 'Designing with doors and doorsets', which guides the specifier through the requirements of the Building Regulations.

* Guide to Part E of the England and Wales Building Regulations, 'Resistance to the passage of sound' by the UK Timber Frame Association.

The judges considered this to be 'an excellent and comprehensive technical publication, packed with essential detail to assist the designer in a highly complex area'.

In launching the Award, said Mr Abbott, TRADA recognised the 'important achievement of the TTJ Awards initiative in encouraging ever higher standards of customer service, performance and training by honouring excellence within the industry.

Our aim in sponsoring the Best Technical Information Support Award is to highlight the importance of good information and its appropriate application, in support of timber products.'.
