A Timber Research and Development Association product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 29, 2004

TRADA Technology has published a new manual aimed at establishing the principles of good practice in the design and specification of wood windows.

High performance wood windows, written by Patrick Hislop RIBA, is intended to aid architects in selecting commercially available windows or in designing windows specifically for a project.

A secondary aim is to provide design guidance to joinery companies who take responsibility for the detail design and ultimate performance of the windows they manufacture.

The manual concentrates mainly on domestic-scale windows and on outward opening casements, mostly of 'flush joint' design.

Regulation requirements mean that insulated glass units of 20mm or more are now the norm.

High performance wood windows includes proposals for improving insulation and weather resistance, operational safety and security standards, for effective fixing and weathertight jointing to surrounds and reducing maintenance requirements.

Chapters cover: appearance, performance, design, glazing, fittings, finishes, specifications, installation and maintenance.

This edition replaces TRADA Technology's previous publication Wood windows - design, selection and installation.
