Reaction to fire testing explained

Chiltern International Fire and BM TRADA Certification will stage two further one-day seminar/demonstration events to explain the implications of European reaction to fire testing and classification.

Following the success of an event in November last year, Chiltern International Fire and BM TRADA Certification will stage two further one-day seminar/demonstration events to explain the implications of European reaction to fire testing and classification The dates booked for 2005 are Wednesday 9th March and Wednesday 4th May

The events are aimed at manufacturers, specifiers and regulators of: a.

panel products b.

wall and ceiling systems c.

coatings d.

insulation products.

They will take place at the companies' head office, near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

Reaction to fire performance relates to the combustibility and ignitability of a material, ie its contribution to fire growth, rather than its ability to provide a barrier to the passage of fire.

The days will include a demonstration of Single Burning Item (SBI) and Single Flame Ignitability (SFI) tests as well as: a.

How are reaction to fire classifications called up in UK Statutory Guidance documents? How does reaction to fire relate to fire safety as a whole? b.

Philosophy of reaction to fire (fixing, fitting and end use applications).

c.

Comparison of British and European test methods.

d.

European classification.

e.

CE marking.

Chiltern International Fire is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to carry out reaction to fire testing to a number of British and European Standards and, along with BM TRADA, is a Notified Body for CE Marking.

The cost of the event will be £50 + VAT for Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) Members and £75.00 plus VAT for non-members.
