TRADA Technology has revised its Wood Information Sheet, 'Wood preservation - chemicals and processes' which outlines the treatments in use today and their methods of application Users should be aware that there is a 'steady drive', according to TRADA Technology, towards finding effective substitutes for older preservatives that can deliver the level of safety and environmental protection demanded today

Three main types are currently in use: water-borne preservatives, micro-emulsions and organic solvent-based preservatives.

From June 2003 creosote has been restricted to 'professional and industrial use' and may not be used inside buildings, in toys, playgrounds, garden furniture or any other application where there is a risk of frequent contact with the skin.

TRADA members and registered users can view the contents of the revised Wood Information Sheet on the askTRADA website at www.trada.co.uk (visit the Library).

Members may download a PDF file free of charge.
