TRADA stages timber conference in Haarlem
TRADA, the Timber Research and Development, has chosen the stunning Philharmonie Conference Centre in Haarlem, Netherlands, as the venue for its second Timber Industry Conference.
TRADA, the Timber Research and Development, has chosen the stunning Philharmonie Conference Centre in Haarlem, Netherlands, as the venue for its second Timber Industry Conference on 9th and 10th November this year.
TRADA will work closely with its Dutch counterpart Centrum Hout to offer a programme which homes in on strategic issues facing the UK timber industry today and offers an insight into the Dutch experience of timber in construction and architecture.
The first day's programme will include presentations by Dutch architects and timber specialists on:.
* How do the Dutch use wood in construction? A look at key uses for timber, initiatives to grow the market for timber products and why the Dutch use so much more wood per head of population than the British.
* What are other materials in the UK doing to promote themselves? .
* Proving timber's sustainability credentials - the Dutch experience.
The need for certification, timber industry tactics regarding certification.
* The design and refurbishment of the Philharmonie, followed by backstage tour of the venue.
The second day will focus mainly on the UK.
Presentations will include:.
* The Contractor's view.
What determines whether a major housebuilder uses timber versus non-timber components?.
* Addressing recruitment / skills shortages in the timber industry.
* Strategic needs of the timber industry - how far are timber associations meeting them?.
* The Olympics - an update on the timber industry's tactics.
* Walking tour of the innovative Damaststraat housing development.
