Garden city car park gets the Tremco
treatment
Tremco's Tretodek Hybuild has proved equal to the challenge of lift slab construction.
Lift slab construction multi-storey car parks present one of the most technically difficult subjects for refurbishment amongst modern day structures, but Tremco's Tretodek Hybuild has proved equal to the challenge in the case of an on-going contract in Welwyn Garden City Tremco's most advanced formulation of their high performance waterproofing system, Tretodek Hybuild, was installed by a specialist contractor working for Llewellyn Rok

Golden mile car park gets the Tremco treatment
Tremco's Tretodek Hybuild and Rapide HB Systems have been specified for the second phase of refurbishment work on a prominent multi-storey car park in Blackpool.
The main contractor proposed the use of Tretodek Hybuild for the top deck and Tremco's Rapide HB for the intermediate decks on the basis of the systems' ability to protect the concrete against penetration by rain, road salts and the spillage of fuel or oils, as well as their outstanding resistance to tyre wear.
Mike Haynes is the Principal Engineer leading the project for Faber Maunsell the engineering consultants.
Commenting on the selection of the Tremco systems he said: "Llewellyn Rok proposed the use of Tretodek Hybuild as being a system capable of dealing with all of the physical forces to which a car park deck is subjected, as well as the exposure to the weather and various aggressive substances".

"As the engineering consultancy on the project, we investigated all of Tretodek Hybuild's technical benefits, as well as its guarantee and were happy to confirm its use." Tretodek Hybuild is based upon a fluid applied, elastomeric material that encapsulates a specialist flexible aggregate which increases the layer thickness and offers exceptional slip resistance.
It is also resilient to the forces generated by today's vehicles, almost all of which feature power assisted steering, manoeuvring, at low speed.
Aesthetically the installation across the uppermost of the five sloping decks or slabs has achieved an attractive as well as highly durable finish.
Tretodek Hybuild was specified in four of the different colour options available to make the designation of space simpler and safer for all of those using it.
The blue parking bays are delineated by yellow markings while the aisleways are a mid-grey colour.
Red was chosen for the pedestrian walkways.
Rapide HB was used for the lower levels of the car park.
This a fast curing system wherein the primer, coating and sealing layers are sufficiently dry to be overcoated within 30 minutes.
Importantly, the Rapide HB system will accept vehicle traffic four hours after completion of the installation.
With the lift slab technique, all of the decks are cast at ground level, resting one upon another before being winched up into position.
Wedged and pinned in place on the supporting columns, the integrity of the reinforced concrete around these critical load points is critical.
Faber Maunsell is consequently backing up the concrete repairs carried out and the barrier presented by the Tremco systems with cathodic protection for the steel reinforcement itself.
