Tremco products picked for new hi-tech college

Due to the high moisture content readings detected in the power floated concrete slabs, Tremco's Treadfast One Coat Universal surface damp proof membrane was recommended.

The construction of a specialist teaching college in Leicestershire has featured the use of a high performance damp proof membrane and other flooring products from Tremco, with separate specifications being evolved to suit the very different floorcoverings required.

The new premises of Stephenson College at Coalville have been built by Mowlem, with Pick Everard being the design consultancy leading the project.

Having relied on Tremco in the past for specialist advice, Pick Everard invited the manufacturer's Technical Department to put forward specifications to suit the installation of both a decorative resin surface and commercial floorcoverings.

Due to the high moisture content readings detected in the power floated concrete slabs, Tremco's Treadfast One Coat Universal surface damp proof membrane was recommended to be applied across the entire 10,100 square metre complex.

The project architect for Pick Everard, Mike Pole, comments: "We had been happy with the assistance Tremco had offered us in the past, so I had no problem inviting them to put forward a specification for the treatment of the slabs at Stephenson College".

"The membrane has worked very well and the resin flooring looks good in the Construction and Motor Vehicle Engineering areas".

For the areas due to be laid with commercial floorcoverings Tremco Unitex was applied to smooth the surface.

Classic Interiors then installed Armstrong Fundamental carpets and resilient rubber flooring.

Industrial flooring specialist Tornado Management put down two layers of Tremco Drycote to achieve an attractive, slip resistant and extremely hardwearing floor surface for the college's training rooms and wet areas.
