Tremco Rapide replaces failed membrane on Skydome
Tremco illbruck's Rapide waterproofing and wearing course system has replaced failed membrane installed across the upper decks of a multi-storey car park.
Tremco illbruck's Rapide waterproofing and wearing course system has been utilised on a challenging refurbishment contract, replacing a failed membrane installed across the upper decks of a multi-storey car park serving a busy leisure destination.
The SkyDome in Coventry is part of the portfolio of Targetfollow Group while Regional Car Parks is the operator of the adjoining MSCP which rises to 18 floors.
The original waterproofing treatment applied to the precast concrete decks installed on the structure's steel frame had cracked, allowing rainwater to cause serious problems.
The project consultants, RJ Witt, were confident that the Tremco Rapide 3.0 FR system was capable of bridging the gaps and providing an enduring wearing surface for the car park.
The engineer in charge of the project for RJ Witt, Rick Mallett explains: "The original surfacing had been put down far too early to allow for the precast planks to complete the majority of their movement.
They had shrunk causing the main joints to open up and water to leak through onto the levels below and into the stair-wells.
"We know of a number of suppliers on the market and, as well as being unhappy with the performance of one of the rival systems, had utilised Rapide successfully on West Riding House in Leeds.
The installation of the Rapide has addressed the problems and seems to be working fine".
A total of 2200 square metres of the Rapide were installed by Brindley Special Projects in a contract completed to programme in July of last year.
The failed surfacing was removed by planning prior to the installation of the Rapide high performance, fluid applied system that is fully reinforced with metre wide rolls of polyester fleece to prevent cracking.
Different colours of Rapide are available to identify aisleways, parking bays, walkways and other areas.
