Monarch House landmark for Tremco Rapide
Refurbishment of car park structure in West London provided early trial for Tremco illbruck's new fully fleece reinforced decking system.
The refurbishment of a car park structure in West London has provided an early trial for Tremco illbruck's new fully fleece reinforced decking system; not only overcoming challenging technical problems, but also offering savings for the client and contractor.
The work at Monarch House in Acton was undertaken by Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL) as a specialist contractor acting on behalf of leading industrial property company, Brixton plc.
Bucknall Austin Limited was the consultancy overseeing the installation of the new Tremco Rapide HB-FR 4.5 system.
The top deck of the in-situ reinforced concrete car park - built back in 1965 - was suffering from extensive cracking leading to water ingress and threatening more severe structural problems.
The Contracts Manager for CRL, Ben Lawson, comments: "This was a potentially problematic deck where there was a very high concentration of shrinkage cracks".
"We therefore proposed the use of the new Rapide system with full fleece reinforcement as an ideal answer".
"The installation went very well and the change in specification allowed a significant cost saving to be passed onto the client." After the existing failed bituminous waterproofing had been planed off and the surface vacuum blasted, additional drainage channels were installed to help counter ponding.
CRL then installed the Rapide HB-FR 4.5 system as a build up of Rapide Primer with the polyester fleece embedded in the first coat.
The installation was completed with a coat of Rapide Sealer to enhance the system's wear resistance.
The installation of 720 square metres of Rapide HB-FR 4.5 was completed on time and to schedule with the use of the system representing a value engineering solution over the specification of conventional multi-storey car park refurbishment techniques.
