Tremco CPD highlight excess moisture solutions

A Tremco illbruck product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Sep 27, 2007

Tremco illbruck has produced a CPD presentation on the use of surface damp proof membrane and moisture vapour suppressants.

Detailing the two common failures for surfaces - moisture and bad preparation - the presentation explains the cost in terms of revenue and business where there is excess moisture.

This is believed to be a contributory cause of unhealthy indoor environments and sick buildings which can have a negative effect upon human health.

Without the correct products and procedures, the cost to repair is estimated at up to six times that of the original cost.

The company explains the rigid testing processes involved in measuring moisture content and the correct way of preparing the base.

By using a surface damp proof membrane, vapour release from concrete and sand cement is controlled which prevents blistering and damage to the adhesive.

The presentation explains the different issues that have to be taken into consideration, including treatment of calcium sulfate screeds, magnesite and composition and underfloor heating systems.

The need for surface membranes is also explained fully with essential information on how to use the correct underlayment primer as well as a detailed description of the two most common types of smoothing compounds - water mix with high compressive strength that is self levelling and latex underlayment which bonds directly to the dpm.

Finally, the presentation explains the need for correct adhesive selection, comparing the differences between the basic types available from SBR for carpets to acrylic, polyurethane, epoxy and neoprene.

Without the correct preparation and care, floors can fail unnecessarily.

The Tremco illbruck CPD presentation presents the facts and the solutions in a concise, easy to follow format that in the long run, can save costly yet avoidable expenditure.
