Compriband Interspan FN 50120 mechanical movement joint, supplied by Tremco iIIbruck, was specified by Rolfe Judd, architects on the Baskerville House project in Birmingham.

Baskerville House, the former administrative headquarters of Birmingham City Council, has been reborn as a stylish and modem commercial office development The property has been radically reconfigured from the new glazed roof structure containing two extra storeys down to the lower ground floor level car park where Tremco iIIbruck has supplied a Compribrand construction joint to relieve thermal stresses in the existing concrete slab

The developer of the prestigious project is Targetfollow (Birmingham) Limited, while Alfred McAlpine is the design and build contractor leading the conversion.

The use of the Compriband Interspan FN 50120 mechanical movement joint was specified by Rolfe Judd, the architects on the project.

The project co-ordinator for Rolfe Judd, George Corrigan, comments: "We have been happy with the design support we received from Simon Foy the technical representative who I have known for some years".

"The Compriband range was able to meet our needs for a movement joint in the basement floor slab".

"The building is now handed over to the client and we are now doing fit out work for the tenants who have taken some of the floors".

Baskerville House, which was originally constructed in 1939, has undergone a GBP30 million redevelopment, and now contains close to 200,000 square feet of Grade A lettable space across seven floors.

Commenting on the success of the scheme, the leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Mike Whitby, said he was "delighted to welcome this glorious building back into use".

Compriband offers specifiers a comprehensive selection of jointing systems capable of accommodating the very highest degrees and variations of movement.

The Interspan and Steelspan ranges incorporate high grade synthetic rubber or PVC inserts between either, extruded aluminium and brass, or stainless steel sections to address most interior/exterior applications.

There is also a Superspan range to provide total weather protection in the most demanding exposed locations and an Interspan All-Metal range to provide a permanent and highly effective solution for heavy duty applications where large structural movement may occur.

The movement joints are generally designed to be flush fitting for a smooth and neat finished appearance.

Compriband can also provide a selection of standard or bespoke sections capable of forming crossovers or steps in both the vertical and horizontal plane.
