Tremco specification covers wet and dry substrates

Tremco illbruck's Treadfast facilitate installation of high quality floorcoverings at the the new Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The bringing together of acute hospital services in Blackburn Lancashire onto the new Royal Blackburn Hospital at its Haslingden Road site has demonstrated the ability of Tremco illbruck's Treadfast range of flooring products to facilitate the installation of high quality floorcoverings in a variety of conditions, speeding progress and ensuring the long term performance of the surfaces.

The new building, constructed by Balfour Haden with Keppie Design taking the role of project architect, provides 30,000 square metres of accommodation for a new AandE department together with wards, theatres and other specialist units.

With a tight fit out programme flooring contractor Tyndale Flooring Group opted to use Treadfast One Coat Universal to deal with residual moisture in the newly laid power floated concrete floor slabs.

This was followed by the use of Treadfast Uniflow as an underlayment, though those areas not requiring a DPM were treated with the Unismooth variant.

The Contracts Manager for Tyndale Flooring Group, Andrew Lomas, recounts: "Although about a quarter of the total floor area of 30,000 square metres was acceptably dry and did not require a damp proof membrane, the rest gave readings of between 75 and 90 per cent.

In these areas we therefore chose to utilise Tremco illbruck's One Coat Universal because we know it is totally dependable as well as quick and easy to apply.

"If an area was damp we utilised the One Coat followed by the Uniflow, but if a sector was dry it received primer and the Unismooth.

This then enabled us to install the Forbo Linoleum and anti-static vinyl within the theatres suite.".
